Goedt Bier

Another "lost" beer style I'm having for the first time.

Goedt Bier

I don't know I think it's a lot like the Kaves. Certainly in appearance and "wheat-iness". Less alcoholic, which is nice, because drinking two in one sitting is probably possible. Maybe with more bitterness on the finish. I'm trying to pull out different fruits from it but I'm not detecting anything citrusy, peachy, or pineappley. Maybe a little banana, but I think that's a characteristic of the wheat. Having a sip after a square of dark chocolate, it got superduper dry, and even more bitter. I'm thinking my chocolate choice wasn't great for this beer. OK, I give up trying to describe it. I'll let a pro do that and sit there and nod my head.

Oh let's check the official description from page on Giant Jones' store:

Belgian-Style Ale: Historic Belgian-Style from Gent. Monastic yeast shines with notes of cherry skin, pear & white pepper with fluffy malt base derived from organic raw wheat & spelt from Meadowlark Farm in Ridgeway, WI.

Yeah alright, actually there is plenty of pepper and I might even say black pepper. Pear... hmmm, maybe that's the banana I was thinking. Cherry skin: I'm not sure, I can't remember cherry skin like I can grape skin for some reason.

The original 17th century Tripel Karmeliet recipe
Tripel Karmeliet is one of Belgium’s most famous beers, brewed ‘according to a 17th century recipe from the Carmelite monastery in Dendermonde’. Which made me wonder: what recipe? Or: why real Carmelites are not allowed to brew this anymore.
