The Green Knight
It's been a few days and I keep pondering different bits of the movie, and not too many movies have me doing that.
I was gifted the money to rent this and I'm glad I saw it. It certainly made an impression. This movie is a lot more art-house than summer blockbuster, and it's the latter I'm normally more interested in. I don't know. It's got a pretty cool visual style, the music sets the mood well, but it's still a bit weird. Lots of heavy-handed allegory and symbolism... I think. Alicia Vikander plays two different characters and that's probably significant somehow. And that green sash. Some college kid majoring in humanities could break this down for me pretty easily. Look, I think 80% of the movies I've seen in the last decade have been superhero fluff. I'm just not conditioned for this sort of challenge. And I say all that, but I still liked it a lot. The Green Knight himself was something fierce. We see him early in the movie and I was chomping at the bit to see him again after that. But really the film is about Gawain and "facing the music", so to speak. Interesting stuff.
