The Tomorrow War
Good summer stuff.
This is just a classic summer blockbuster popcorn kill-the-aliens end-of-the-world movie. I think it was a pretty decent one too.
I like that the time-travelling had its limits, so they couldn't aim the time machine it a specific moment, rather it was a fixed tunnel 28 yrs foward/backward. They also made sure people from the past travelling into the future would be dead already, and people from the future travelling to the past wouldn't be born yet. I'm surprised that's the first time I remember a movie imposing that specific constraint.
2050 looks a lot like 2020. Maybe people stop buying cars after 2022 because there are a lot of Priuses on the street. The military has time travel, but still rely on Blackhawks and .50 cal M2 machine guns (that are already about a century old in 2022). We saw some pipetting! The 2050 labs have fancy pipettes, but that's sad news for the progression of automated liquid handling. Robots should be doing that grunt work, man.
I don't think it'll be my favorite movie of the year but I don't need every movie to be my favorite. It was still fantastic entertainment.
